, Thanks for the response.

Thanks for trying out the steps.

As you mentioned when you try to install the file you are getting 9998 error on your PC.

Please try the steps recommended below.

Restart the computer.
Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.
Select the hard drive with the operating system (usually CSmiley Happy, and then click OK.
Wait for disk cleanup to calculate how much disk space it can save.
Select Temporary Files, and then click OK. It might take a while for the Disk Cleanup utility to remove the files.
Try to install the update again.

Refer this document to further troubleshoot 9998 errors.

Also, Right click the file and run the file as an administrator.

Let me know if this helps!

Have a beautiful day ahead! Smiley Happy

Re: Logitech HD Webcam C525 Microphone is only working intermittently on HP Pavilion

Hi,

After hours of research, I finally found the solution to the problem of my Logitech Webcam C525 oly working intermittently. The issue was not with a driver, but rather malware that found it's way onto my computer. Norton was useless to find the malware. The following free software finally solved the problem for me:

https://www.malwarebytes.com/antirootkit/

I had to run the program 3 times until I finally got rid of the malware for good. All I had to do is unmute my microphone once the malware was removed. My microphone is now operating properly.

Headphone microphone not recognised

Trying to plug a 4 pin headset into the headphone jack so can chat online.  I can hear my friends but they can't hear me. Also while my headset is plugged in, I can hear them perfectly but it creates an echo for them. I have tried 2 different 4 pin headsets and the same problem occurs but the headsets function correctly when plugged into xbox one or iphone.

The pc has a headphone jack and a microphone jack but does not have a headset jack so don't know whether I need new headphones or whether there is a way of connecting my existing ones which are meant to be pc compatible.

, welcome to the forum.

What are the make/models of the headsets that you are trying to use?  I want to see what connectors they have.  This will allow me to help you better.

Poor headphone quality on HP 6005 Pro SFF

Hi guys,

I recently got a new pc. the HP Compaq 6005 Pro Small Form Factor PC. What I've realized is that the headphone quality is rather poor when I listen to music or watch videos. The same headphone sounds great on my previous laptop. The model of this laptop was:  HP dv7 2250ed. I don't know much about computers or laptops, but could it be because of the soundcard? Could the soundcard in my HP laptop be much better, which makes the quality better?

If so, what could I do to improve the quality (an amplifier maybe?)

Thanks.

Speakers not working

I have an HP Pavilion Slimline that came with harman/kardon speakers.  They no longer work.  The troubleshooter tells me the device is not plugged in, when it clearly IS plugged.  However, the troubleshooter also thinks the device is a "headset" -- so is there a setting somewhere that has gotten changed?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi:

The  HP Compaq 6005 Pro Small Form Factor PC is about 6 years old.

So, that means that while it is new to you, you purchased a used or refurbished model.

If the operating system was reinstalled, perhaps the reburbisher did not install the audio drivers, since W7 automatically installs a generic audio driver which provides basic audio functionality.

The first thing I recommend you do is to install the latest Realtek HD audio driver directly from Realtek, and see if that helps.  That driver will have some audio enhancements you can tweak, such as virtual surround and an equalizer.

Accept the agreement.  Download and install the 2nd driver on the list.

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Your notebook definitely has a different model audio chip (IDT), and that may be one reason for the difference, but I think Realtek makes a pretty good basic audio chip.

If you are still not happy with the sound after installing the updated driver, I recommend you install an audio card of your choosing that will fit in the sff chassis.

Hi:

Yes, it is possible that somehow the setting got switched from the speakers, to the headphones.

So, the only suggestion I can offer would be to:

Go to the Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Sound>Manage Audio Devices, and ensure that the speakers are selected as the default device.

The default device will have a green checkmark next to it.

Hi,

I actually use USB headsets at work and at home specially for conference calls and sometimes (10%) I have to turn the microphone on because it won't come on automatically.

Indeed, it is refurbished.

I forgot to mention that Realtek is already installed. Will it be cheaper to buy an amplifier or an audio card to enhance the quality?

I'm new to having a pc so if I buy a USB headset is there anything special I need to make sure it has or will any work? Also is it better to have wired or wireless. Thanks.

Any USB headset that is compatible with Win 10 should work fine.  You should look at banhien's post with the diagram showing how to make certain that they are recognized.
