Re: 2509m went dark

My son brought home the HP 2509m monitor and said it's mine if I can fix it.  He said the monitor comes on for a few seconds then goes black.

I searched the net and found this forum (Thank you HP) and also many thanks to Frank's tenacity and taking the time to post his fix... His solution got me thinking that there had to be a logical reason why Frank's seemingly pressing the 2509m buttons after recycling power to the monitor and repeating this process for 5-10 minutes finally brought the desired response of fixing his monitor from going black after a few seconds.  Plus, I read what the HP tech said about selecting the factory reset button under the MENU.  I looked for a physical reset button but couldn't find any little reset button around the MENU button.  But putting some thought into Frank's solution, I dug out a flashlight and held it up over the screen and voila I could see the image from my laptop coming through!  So I recycled power and when the screen lit up I pressed the menu button quickly.  I could see the menu pop up in the LOWER RIGHT corner of the monitor before the screen went black. I held up my flashlight and could see the menu window still open.  I could make out the options and found one that said "Factory Reset" down near the bottom of the list.  (That's what the HP Tech was talking about!)  Using my flashlight I carefully pressed the + button three times to highlight "Factory Reset" and then pressed the OK button.  I couldn't see anything at first but by moving my flashlight up to the top of the little Menu window I could see more options!  This time I saw YES and NO with NO highlighted.  I press the + button once to highlight the YES and then pressed the OK button.  Nothing seemingly happened, except the Menu window disappeared and the monitor screen stayed black.  I recycled power and the monitor did it's usual thing of staying on for a few seconds before going black.  (Keep in mind what Frank said... Tenacity! <grin>)  So I used the flashlight and did the factory reset again. This time when I recycled power the monitor back-light stayed on for  a few minutes before going black!  So I recycled power and then did the factory reset again.  This time the unit stayed on longer before going black!  So I recycled power and did the factory reset again setting a timer on my phone to see how long it would go before turning black.  Well, it's been over 35 minutes and the monitor screen is still back-lit as it should be!

So thank you, Frank and everyone else for posting ideas that helped me fix the monitor and now I have a neat Christmas present for my son! PJ!
